The days of our age are threescore years
and ten; and though men be so strong that
they come to fourscore years, yet is their
strength then but labour and sorrow; so
soon it passeth away and we are gone. *

Underneath this stone are deposited the Remains
of JAMES WALKER Esquire,
Rear Admiral of the Red.
A most brave and distinguished Officer who served
fought and conquered with Rodney, Howe
Duncan, St Vincent and the immortal Nelson.
In the glorious Victory of Camperdown he commanded
the Monmouth, in that of Copenhagen the Isis
and after serving his King and Country
for fifty-five years with conspicuous Valour, Zeal
Skill and Fidelity, he departed this life
at Blatchington, July 13TH 1831
in the 67TH Year of his Age.

Here lieth Capt. MARTAIN PRAINSCHRIVER, of Dantzic, with 13 men of his ship's company; and Capt. J. G. SCHULTZ, of Dantzic, with 12 men of his ship's company. WRECKED, 7TH. Dec. 1809.

Inscription on a wooden rail memorial (no longer present), recorded by Henry Simmons
in 1860, sited north of the Church.
This marked one of several mass graves for the victims of a December 1809 disaster in which numerous ships were caught in a storm along the Channel. Seven ships were sunk in Seaford Bay.
St Peter's, Blatchington was also used for the burial of the drowned.
